ARTIST STATEMENT |

Spending time in nature makes me feel connected, joyful & inspired; it restores me to spiritual wholeness. I admire the leaves of every plant or tree I walk by. I draw from the beauty I see to inspire my art, collecting elements from nature to create lasting impressions in clay. Like the leaves that nature produces, each handmade ceramic tile/art piece is a one-of-a-kind, unique creation. There are no two tiles exactly alike. I grew up in Pennsylvania and remember going to a ceramics studio with my Mom when I was about 4. I loved the smell of the clay studio, as well as the feeling of dipping my hands into the recycled clay bins. I was arm deep in "mud" most of the time I was there and loved it! I took my first pottery class in 1996. I knew I was at home the minute I walked into the studio. Sometime in my first year of classes I wrote a note on my clipboard that said “press leaves into clay”... little did I know how much that little piece of paper would change my life. It was 5 years later that I actually made my first leaf impression in clay and I was so moved by the results that Tiles by Marci was instantly born. I enjoy making this art work because I feel that the pieces bring the beauty of nature into the home. My hope is that you and your loved ones might also experience the powerful healing properties of nature that remain in each of the pieces as their essence is mixed with the clay. |
